On a hot Summer afternoon, I took my girls to Ohme Gardens for some cooler temperatures in the world-renowned wooded shade gardens. We meandered thru stone paved paths that wraps around koi ponds and hidden pools, lookout points, and indigenous plants and trees native to the region.  We even spotted a few fairies and gnomes hidden around the gardens.  We even brought an afternoon picnic and sat on one of the many grass pads throughout the gardens.

Now over 80 years old, this little paradise perched on a cliff overlooking Wenatchee, started as a backyard family project by Herman and Ruth Ohme, who purchased the 40 acre dry, parched hillside for orchards.   It was hard work, done mostly by hand, and truly a labor of love. Initially intended as a private family retreat, the interest of friends and community members prompted the Ohmes to open the Gardens to the public.   The Gardens are now a world-renowned showpiece that visitors from around the world come to see.

In the Summer months on Thursday nights, RLS's Concert in the Gardens, is a enjoyable way to spend and evening listening to great music, observe the views, and eat and drink delicious food and wine from Tastebuds Coffee & Wine Catering.  We happened to stumble upon the concert garden just before the crowds arrived for Charlie Butts and the Filter Tips.  See Ohme Gardens website for concert schedule.

Another fun event, the gardens offer in the Summer months is Yoga in the Gardens, sponsored by WORX, offered Wednesday’s at 5:30 throughout the summer (June, July and August).  Cost is $10, cash or check only.  Bring a yoga mat if you have one.
